Mattress

A mattress is bought in ten minutes and used for ten thousand nights. Firmness is not a quality rating; it's a fit to your body weight and sleeping position.

Quick answer

Match firmness to body weight — heavier bodies need firmer.

Memory foam 40+ kg/m³; PU base foam 32+ kg/m³.

For warm climates, latex or gel-infused foam sleeps cooler.

Pocket spring with a foam top is a safe middle ground.

In the shop

Ask the salesperson this exact question

Read these off your phone at the counter. The answer tells you more than the price tag.

  1. 1.“What is the foam density in kg/m³ and the total thickness?”

A good answer: 30+ kg/m³ for the support layer. “High density” without a number is marketing.

  2. 2.“What exactly does the 10-year warranty cover — sagging depth included?”

A good answer: A stated sag depth (usually 25 mm). If sagging isn't covered, the warranty is decoration.

Does it fit your budget?

Most mattress purchases are financed. Check the monthly outgo and the interest you actually pay before you decide which spec level you can afford.

Monthly EMI

₹2,942 (≈$35)

Total interest

₹1,481 (≈$18)

Total paid

₹26,481 (≈$320)

A no-cost EMI offer should make this equal the price.

Reducing-balance calculation. Processing fees, GST on interest and insurance are not included, so confirm the final schedule with your lender. USD values are approximate.

Protect the mattress

A protector and the right pillow keep the mattress warranty valid and comfortable.

Waterproof mattress protector

Stains void most mattress warranties; a protector is mandatory.

Orthopaedic pillow

Neck support matters as much as the mattress for back sleepers.

These are common add-ons for this category, not recommendations. Prices and availability vary; confirm fit and compatibility on the product page before buying.

Buy it locally

Shops near you that stock mattress

Sometimes the local dealer beats online on price, installation or the exchange offer. Tell us where you are and we'll list nearby stores. We don't rank or take money from any shop; results come from Google Maps.

The area you enter, or coordinates rounded to about 1 km if you use your location, are sent to Google Maps through Lovable to find places. Lookups are temporarily cached for up to 30 minutes.

The spec sheet, decoded

Firmness (soft / medium / firm)

How much you sink in, usually scored 1–10.

Why it matters

Side sleepers need give at shoulder and hip; back and stomach sleepers need support to keep the spine level.

What to check

Heavier bodies experience the same mattress as softer — size firmness up with weight.

Foam density (kg/m³)

How much material is in the foam.

Why it matters

Low-density foam sags into a body-shaped hollow within two years.

What to check

Memory foam under 40 kg/m³ or PU base foam under 32 kg/m³ is a short-life mattress.

Memory foam vs latex vs pocket spring

Three very different support systems.

Why it matters

Memory foam hugs and isolates motion; latex is bouncy, cool and durable; pocket springs give airflow and edge support.

What to check

Memory foam runs hot in warm climates unless it's gel-infused or open-cell.

Motion isolation & edge support

Whether a partner turning wakes you, and whether the edge collapses when you sit.

Why it matters

The two things couples complain about most, and neither is on the price tag.

What to check

Cheap pocket springs skip the reinforced perimeter.

Thickness

Total height of the mattress.

Why it matters

6 inches suits light single sleepers; 8–10 inches suits most adults; heavier bodies need 10+.

What to check

Thickness without density is meaningless — thick cheap foam still sags.

Trial period & warranty terms

Nights you can return it, and what 'sagging' the warranty actually covers.

Why it matters

Bodies need 2–3 weeks to adapt; a 10-night trial proves nothing.

What to check

Warranties often only cover sag deeper than 1–1.5 inches, measured unweighted.

Before you pay

  • ✓Note your sleeping position and rough body weight — those pick the firmness.
  • ✓Ask for the foam density in kg/m³ for each layer, in writing.
  • ✓Prefer a 30-night-plus home trial over any in-store lie-down.
  • ✓Read what the warranty defines as a defect, not just its length.
  • ✓Check bed frame: solid platforms need a breathable mattress or you get mildew.

Common traps

  • !'Orthopaedic' is a marketing word with no standard behind it.
  • !Judging a mattress by five minutes in a showroom.
  • !Buying extra-firm for back pain — medium-firm outperforms firm in most studies.

Foam density and warranty terms tell you more about longevity than the brand does.
