What this site does

KnowBeforeBuy publishes buying guides and product spec explanations. You can use most of the site without creating an account or providing personal information.

Information we collect

• Analytics and interaction events: If you accept analytics, Google Analytics receives page views and selected interaction events, which may include a guide category, retailer, or product search phrase. We do not intentionally send your name, email, or precise location to Google Analytics.
• Guide searches and saved preferences: Product-guide searches are processed in your browser. Your optional budget, household scenarios, and priorities are saved in this browser's local storage and are not sent to our server. Clear your profile in the For you page or clear this site's browser storage to remove them.
• Nearby shops: If you request a local shop search, the city, area, or postcode you enter is sent to our server and Google Maps through Lovable's connector. If you choose browser location, we round coordinates to about 1 km before sending them. Google Maps processes the location to return nearby places under its own terms.
• Link health logs: When a supported retailer link check reports a failure, we send the retailer, destination URL, guide, and search phrase to our server for troubleshooting. Limited diagnostic details may be written to hosting logs even when analytics consent is declined.
• Contact form: If you email us through the contact form or directly, we receive the name, email address, and message you choose to send.
• Affiliate links: When you click an Amazon link and make a purchase, Amazon may share order-related data with us under their Associates programme. We do not receive your full name, address, or payment details.

Cookies and tracking

Cloudflare may set its __cf_bm cookie for bot detection and site security. Google Analytics is loaded only after you accept analytics; choosing “Essential only” keeps our analytics events disabled. Where advertising is enabled, advertising technologies may also use cookies after the required consent. You can clear cookies or change your browser settings at any time.

Advertising

This site may display advertising served by Google, including Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.

• Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet.
• You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings, or opt out of third-party vendor cookies at aboutads.info.
• Where required, personalised advertising and analytics are only enabled after you give consent through our cookie notice.

Health and safety content

Guides covering health, home medical devices, and personal care are informational only and are not medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Consult a qualified healthcare professional before relying on any device or product for a health condition.

How we use your information

We use consented analytics to understand site usage, requested location data to find nearby shops, and limited link-health logs to diagnose broken retailer links. We use contact messages to respond to feedback. We do not sell or rent personal information.

Third-party services

Depending on the feature you use, data may be processed by Cloudflare (delivery, bot/security controls, and its __cf_bm cookie), Google Analytics (after consent), Google Maps through Lovable's connector (nearby-shop searches), Supabase (site functionality), and retailer sites such as Amazon when you follow an outbound link. Each provider may process data under its own privacy terms.
