Gas Stove & Cooktop

Stoves look identical in the shop. What separates a 10-year stove from a 2-year one is burner metal, the thickness of the glass or steel top, and whether spare burner caps are sold.

Find your fit

A few questions about your situation, not about the product.

How many dishes do you cook at once?
What size vessels do you use?

Answer all 2 questions to see the spec sheet to shop with.

The spec sheet, decoded

Burner material

Brass, forged brass or aluminium alloy burners.

Why it matters

Brass holds flame shape and survives spills; aluminium warps and yellows the flame.

What to check

Ask if burner caps and rings are sold as spares in your city.

Top material

Toughened glass vs stainless steel.

Why it matters

Glass wipes clean and looks better; steel takes rough handling and heavy vessels.

What to check

Glass should be 6–8 mm toughened; thinner tops crack from thermal shock.

Pan support & burner spacing

Trivet size and the gap between burners.

Why it matters

Two large kadhais must sit side by side without touching. Cramped stoves force you to cook one at a time.

What to check

Measure your biggest vessel against the trivet in the shop.

Ignition type

Manual, battery auto-ignition, or mains auto-ignition.

Why it matters

Auto-ignition is convenient but the spark unit is the first thing to fail in humid kitchens.

What to check

Manual is more reliable and cheaper to keep running.

ISI mark & gas efficiency

IS 4246 certification and thermal efficiency percentage.

Why it matters

Certified stoves burn cleaner and use less LPG per meal.

What to check

Look for the ISI mark stamped on the body, not just on the box.

Before you pay

  • Count burners you actually use at once — 3 is enough for most families.
  • Check brass burners and spare availability.
  • Measure counter space and biggest vessel against pan supports.
  • Confirm ISI mark IS 4246 on the unit.

Common traps

  • !4-burner stoves squeezed into a small platform, so two burners are unusable.
  • !Thin glass tops that crack after a hot vessel is placed on the frame.
  • !Auto-ignition sold as premium when the spark module has no spare supply.

Basic stainless 2-burner stoves to toughened-glass 4-burner with brass burners.
